Webinar: "Managing the 3M’s in Industrial Machinery"

As everyone is well aware the Covid 19 pandemic has impacted the Indian and the global manufacturing industry in a devastating manner. India took swift action during the onset of the pandemic by initiating a lockdown. However, due to several structural challenges India faces, the economy and several businesses took a major hit. Now that we are unlocking and inching back, the way we operate will now be transformed and there will be a new normal.

We were privileged to have the esteemed speakers as follows:

  2. Mr. Srinivas Hublikar, Head of Product Management & Global Core Team member for Industrial Communication, LAPP India.

The session was moderated by Mr. S. Manohar, Regional Head South, VDMA India Services Pvt Ltd who gave the welcome address in which he highlighted the impact of Covid 19 on our work life and how we are moving towards adopting a new normal. He emphasized on the need to adopt and evolve towards a more efficient mindset and better work culture and make new skill development a priority in India. He then explained that the time has come to adopt Industry 4.0 and comply with the Vocal for Local initiative as India is the 9th largest producer of machine tools and the 7th largest consumer of machine tools 
 
The Guest speaker Mr. Chandramouli A.N, Starrag India Pvt Ltd then took over and began speaking on the topic of managing the 3M’s in Industrial Machinery. Mr. Chandramouli began by highlighting how the COVID 19 pandemic has caused three major uncertainties which were Demand, Supply, Resources (manpower). He explained how manpower was the biggest uncertainty which is unlike anything we have ever faced before in an economic recession (2009). However, he gave us a positive outlook by giving insights on how the COVID-19 has sped up the rate of adoption of technologies like cloud-data driven automation, augmented reality, drones and Internet of things (IOT) 

Mr. Chandramouli went on to speak about the importance of modularity and miniaturization how they go a long way in increasing efficiency and ease of maintenance 

Mr. Srinivas Hublikar, Head of Product Management & Global Core Team member for Industrial Communication, LAPP India. then came into the conversation explaining the 3M’s, its significance in agile manufacturing and emphasized how vital the machine tools industry is to the Indian economy with the help of some statistics of the industry which are as follows:

1.India is the 7th largest consumers and 9th largest manufacturer of Machine tools globally. 2.Machine Tool Industry is $USD 1.9B and is growing at 13% CAGR. 3. CNC Machines are expected to contribute to 89% of the industry growth 4. Contributes to 16% of India’s GDP. Expected to grow to 25% by year 2025. 5. Automotive and auto components account for 40% of machine tools consumption 6. Atmanirbhar Bharat-Vocal for local consumer, reduced dependency on imports. Using LAPP’s products as an example he explained the characteristics of Modularity (ease to install, scalable, standardized, reliable, plug & play) Miniaturization (compact, quality& performance) Maintenance (easy to maintain, longer service life, remote maintenance).

Mr. Sandip Roy, Regional Head – East, VDMA India Services Pvt Ltd then took the questions posed by the attendees which were answered by the speakers very eloquently and finally concluded the interactive session and he conveyed his best wishes to all the esteemed speakers and attendees from the industry to stay safe and connected.
