German Technology Day event at Guwahati
As you are aware Assam is, slowly but surely, making its presence felt as a state with immense potential to be among the front runners in myriad sectors and emerge as the Manufacturing Hub of North Eastern India.
Sustained efforts over last few years by the State Government to enhance and strengthen the state's infrastructure is paying dividends today as investors, and those aware of the state's massive investment opportunities are now showing a keen interest in setting up industries there. Over 4000 acres of land bank is available for allotment to industries. Assam is the single largest tea producing region globally and contributes to over 50 per cent of India’s total tea production. The state is the third-largest producer of petroleum and natural gas in the country. Assam has a huge untapped potential for agro and food processing industries. The present government has identified Pharmaceuticals, Plastics & petrochemicals, and Food Processing and Packaging as some of the sunrise sectors for investment along with the traditional industries like mining, tourism.
Against this backdrop, and to promote German technology, skill development, German Engineering Federation (VDMA) supported by German Consulate, Kolkata and the Government of Assam organized a symposium for the first time on "German Technology for the Industrial Development of Assam" at Vivanta by Taj, Guwahati on 26th February 2020.
The daylong event covered various technical solution focusing Mining, Material Handling & Intralogistics, automation, Industry 4.0 and Skill development. More than 70 delegates comprising industry representative from across Assam, policy makers, and local chambers participated in the symposium.
The event started with the traditional lighting of the lamp by the Chier Guest Shri Chandra Mohan Patowary, Hon’ble Minister, Industries & Commerce, Government of Assam; Guest of Honor, Dr. Micheal Feiner, Consul General, German Consulate, Kolkata, flanked by Managing Directors of the sum the VDMA members and Mr. Rajesh Nath, Managing Director, VDMA India.
In his welcome address Mr. Nath stressed on the initiatives taken by VDMA India office to promote some the states in eastern India urged both the VDMA members’ local manufacturing industry to join hand for intense cooperation. He also shown profound gratitude to the Govt of Assam for extending warm hospitality to German delegation a day prior.
The inaugural session started with the presentation from the Knowledge Partner M/s. Fox & Mandal, one of oldest law firm in India. Mr. Orijit Chatterjee, Partner spoke on “Dispute Resolution under Contracts” and explained the audience on various challenges, pitfalls and legal recourse available to resolve the issue.
Dr. Micheal Feiner, the next speaker, spoke on the various initiative taken by the German Government for a closer cooperation with the Assam government.
Shri Chandra Maohan Patowary, our chief guest potrayed the importance of location of Assam in doing business with the ASEAN countries and shared the various initiatives taken – both at the State & central level to improve the infrasturcure across Assam. He invited the German companies in open handed and suggested to do business with the local industry by heart to heart.
There were total 8 speakers under technical session – I & II from VDMA member companies like Contrinex, Jungheinrich, Karcher, NORD Drivessystems, Ringspann, Ringfeder, Sumi-Cyclo Drive and Wuerth India.
The technical session I statred after the tea break with the presentation on “Alternative Drive Technology in Mechanical Engineering and its benefits” by Mr. Pratik Panchal, Marketing Manager, Sumi - Cyclo Drive India Pvt. Ltd. Mr. Panchal explanied the various benefits of using this alterate drive in the industrywith illustrations.
The next speaker, Mr. Thirunavukkarasu Kuppusamy, Manager -Engineering, Ringfeder Power Transmission (I) Pvt Ltd spoke on “Ringfeder, Partner For Performance”. He made an application oriented presentation as per the landscape of the local industries.
Mr Deepak Aran, Director, Contrinex Automation Pvt Ltd, the next speaker, took the audience the digital world from the physical one thorugh his presentation on “Intelligent sensors for Industry 4.0”. He explained the benefits of smart sensors toward process opitmization and profitability of the organisation.
Mr. R Randeep Kumar, Sales Manager – East & Mr. R. Sharath Kumar, Head- Application Engineering & Business Development, RINGSPANN Power Transmission India Pvt. Ltd, the last speakers before the lunch made the presenation on “RINGSPANN Solution For Bulk Material Handling Applications”.
The technical session II started after the sumptous lunch, with the presentation by Mr. Deepak Sharma, Managing Director, Wuerth India Pvt. Ltd. His topic was “Good Maintenance Practice” a very pertinent subject for the local industries.
In his inimitable style, the next speaker, Manojit Acharya, Managing Director, Jungheinrich Lift Truck India Pvt. Ltd. enthralled the audience by his presentation on “Jungheinrich Solutions for Warehousing and Intralogistics”.
In his presentation, Mr. Amit Deokule, General Manager – Sales & Marketing, Nord DriveSystems Private Limited spoke at length on “Predictive maintenance by Industry 4.0 ready products from NORD”. He explanied the benefits of implementing Industry 4.0 compliant products and solution to the manufacturing industry.
Mr. Venu Madhavan – General Manager (Industry and Public Services), Mr. Ravi Modi – National Manager (Skill Development Vertical), Karcher Cleaning Systems Private Limited spoke on “State-of-the-art-Cleaning technology can only be operated with skilled labour”. While Mr. Madhavan spoke on the technical side of various cleaning methods, various skill development programs were the cornerstone of the presentation of Mr. Modi.
Both the technical session was followed by Q&A session. Mr. Sandip Roy, Regional Head- East, moderated the sessions.
The daylong symposium concluded with a Hi-tea and B2B session which offered a good interaction and networking opportunity for both the audience and the participating companies.
