VDMA Seminar on "Mine Safely and Production Efficiency" in cooperation with WBPDCL

VDMA India

The Mining industry in India is a major economic activity which contributes significantly to the economy of India. India currently produces around 95 minerals under different groups, with 4 fuel related minerals, 10 metallic minerals, 23 non-metallic minerals, 3 atomic minerals and 55 minor minerals.

The country has immense potential for mining resources and reserves and is currently among the top 10 global producers of many minerals.

Coal is the most abundant fossil fuel resource in the country. Coal has been and shall continue to be the national cornerstone for meeting India’s growing energy needs in the 21st century.  It is the principal primary source of energy with a share of over 60 % of India’s commercial energy requirements. India is the 3rd largest producer of coal. In order to meet the coal demand and minimize the imports of coal, the government has put coal production in the country on a fast track and has set a target of 1.5 BT of domestic coal production by FY20.

Germany is known globally for its engineering technology and is a very strong partner to India in the mining machinery sector. Germany underlines this position with another German delegation consisting of the mining machinery manufacturers visiting India from 3rd to 5th November 2019.

As a follow up of the visit of the Hon’ble Chief Minister, Ms. Mamata Banerjee and Hon’ble Finance Minster, Dr. Amit Mitra to Dusseldorf, Germany and the high level delegation from NRW to Bengal Global Business Summit (BGBS) including the discussion during IMME 2018 with representatives of VDMA, a delegation, organized by EnergieAgentur.NRW, VDMA Mining and VDMA India (German Engineering Federation). comprising of 12 delegates from 7 German companies in opencast as well as underground technology visited Kolkata from 3rd to 5th November 2019. They include exploration, extraction, beneficiation, mineral processing and safety equipments.

On this occasion, in cooperation with the Govt. of West Bengal and the West Bengal Power Development Corporation (WBPDCL), VDMA India organized a seminar on “Mine Safety and Production Efficiency” at the Williamson Magor Hall in Kolkata on Monday, 4th November 2019. This delegation of German mining machinery manufacturers presented to the mining industry in West Bengal, about latest technologies in safety and efficiency in Mining.

Mr. P. S. Mishra, CMD, Eastern Coalfields Ltd, was present in the seminar as the Chief Guest and Dr. Michael Feiner, Consul General of the Federal Republic of Germany in Kolkata was the Guest of Honor for the program. The seminar received an overwhelming response with around 85 people participating from Coal India Limited (CIL), Eastern Coalfields Ltd (ECL), MDOs, private miners and other people in the mining fraternity in West Bengal.

VDMA Mining represents mainly medium-sized companies from the sectors open cast mining / materials handling, underground mining, mining processing technology and consulting, research and development. Around 145 companies in VDMA Mining represent more than 90 per cent of the entire trade volume.
