In the year of its 125th anniversary, the VDMA is launching its Startup Machine: a new grouping that intends to bring together start-up companies and mechanical engineering companies.

Digitalization is the key to mechanical engineering and will shape industry to an even greater extent in the future. The ideas of many start-up companies are becoming increasingly relevant in this context. In the year of its 125th anniversary, the VDMA is therefore launching its Startup Machine: a new grouping that intends to bring together start-up companies and mechanical engineering companies, and support joint projects. In addition, the association is committed to identifying and validating start-ups, whose work on important future topics such as augmented reality, machine learning or blockchain can advance the mechanical engineers in Germany – the goal is "matchmaking" with relevance for mechanical engineering.

“Associations are service providers for their members, and with the help of our industry’s Startup Machine, we want to tap into potential opportunities in order to successfully map out technological change. Particularly in the fields of digitalization, Industrie 4.0 or the electrification of vehicle drives, start-ups can be enriching in terms of their innovations and their way of working. In turn, we want to open the door to our industry for start-up companies so that they can find out directly whether their ideas and projects actually suit our market,” explains Hartmut Rauen, VDMA Deputy Executive Director.
The association will participate in this new network of industry and start-ups through activities such as hackathons, matchmaking, skunkwork or digital innovation journeys. The Startup Machine is part of the VDMA Competence Center Future Business.
