The mechanical and plant engineering industry is facing enormous technical and economic challenges due to digitalization and climate change. This has consequences for human resources management: With increasing demand for skilled workers, companies also need more flexibility for necessary transformation processes. However, further regulations of the labor market, as demanded by some parties, threaten to prevent more employment.
Commenting on the trilogue negotiations between the EU Commission, the European Parliament and the Council on the so-called Digital Green Certificate, Thilo Brodtmann, Managing Director of the VDMA, said:
In the view of the VDMA, the initiative of the Federal Minister of Labour, Mr Heil, to restrict fixed-term employment contracts has come at an inopportune time. "Particularly in times of economic upheaval, the labor market needs more flexibility, not less," VDMA President Karl Haeusgen expresses concern.
Machines improve our lives – on a large and small scale. Whether for our health, food or the many means of transportation that we use; whether we are looking at the ground deep below the sea or from high above – we need machines and people who utilize their skills to make the world a better place to live. That is the aim of mechanical and plant engineering. Humans – Machines – Progress.
